T：Hello，boys and girls.Is everybody ready to start？Before starting a new lesson，I'd like to ask you whether you have ever been to Hong Kong and what difficulties you have when you are talking with people from Hong Kong.Neo，tell me your experience.

T：Very good，Neo.You may sit down please.We can't understand Hong Kong people，because they speak Cantonese and we speak mandarin （putonghua），though we're both Chinese.So，is there any difference between British and American English？

T：Just now we talked about the difference between British and American English.Now let's listen to the passage and find out what the passage is mainly about.Which is the first and most obvious way that British English and American English are different？

T：As we know，the first and most obvious way that British and American English are different is in vocabulary.Now listen to the passage again.Pay attention to the differences of word and list several different English in the vocabulary according to the passage.

T：Who can tell me the difference between the two varieties of English？Any volunteer？Tom，please.

Ⅲ.Practice

T：Now it's time for our story.Here on the blackboard are some words without any connection now.I'm sure you have read many stories before and I want to hear a story made by all of you.I will invite one of you to begin the story and stop his/her at any time and invite another one to continue.In your first story you have to use the British English.And for the second story you have to use the American English.

T：Nice going！

T：English plays a more and more important role in international affairs.Sometimes，slight misunderstandings may occur between native speakers from Great Britain and the United States.Therefore，it is necessary to know about the differences between American English and British English.I'm going to give you a little quiz.Listen to some materials with different accents，which are from VOA or BBC，and identify whether the announcers' English are British or American.

Ⅳ.Production

T：We've know about the two main varieties of English.What about Chinese？Work in groups and discuss the questions：How many main varieties of Chinese are there？In what ways are they different？Do Chinese people from different regions have problems understanding in each other？What do you think will happen to different Chinese varieties in the future？

Ⅴ.Homework

T：Prepare for an oral composition on world English by using the new words and phrases that you have learned today.
